USCIS Announces Updated Review Process for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans Seeking Parole

On May 18, 2023, USCIS announced that it was updating the review process for supporters who filed Form I-134A to facilitate entry into the U.S. for nationals of Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. Under this program, the U.S. government may grant advance travel authorization for up to 30,000 individuals each month from these countries to be paroled into the U.S. for a temporary period of stay.

In this recent announcement, USCIS explained that the number of supporters filing Form I-134A is significantly more than the 30,000 travel authorization slots available. Therefore, as of May 17, 2023, USCIS will randomly select approximately 15,000 cases each month from all pending I-134As, regardless of filing date, to determine whether advance travel authorization may be granted to those individuals. The remaining 15,000 cases will be reviewed on a first-in, first-out basis, thereby prioritizing the oldest pending cases for review.

It is unclear precisely how many Form I-134As are currently pending, and long supporters may have to wait for their case to be reviewed.
