26 Business Owners Engaged in Unauthorized Worker Ring

Twenty-six New York City business owners have been indicted for their involvement in a criminal scheme that smuggled Chinese immigrants into the U.S. to work at restaurants and other establishments.

According to yesterday’s indictments, six of the defendants smuggled immigrants form China to the United States from April through October.  Eighteen of the defendants allegedly harbored undocumented immigrants for the purpose of commercial advantage or financial gain.

James Hayes Jr., Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent in Charge for New York said the arrests were the agency’s single largest investigation of employers believed to have hired and utilized unauthorized workers in New York City.

The defendants will appear in Manhattan federal court.
