Supreme Court Approves Termination of Parole Program for CHNV Nationals

In a 7–2 decision on May 30, 2025, the Supreme Court upheld the Trump administration’s authority to end a humanitarian parole program that provided temporary protections for nationals from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. The program, originally launched during the Biden administration, had shielded over 500,000 individuals from removal.

The Court’s majority did not author a formal opinion, but the brief ruling allows the administration to immediately halt the parole designations. Justices Ketanji Brown Jackson and Sonia Sotomayor dissented, criticizing the ruling as a hasty disruption to the lives of vulnerable populations. “Even if the government is likely to prevail, our system requires more than just confidence in a future win—it requires due process now,” Jackson wrote.

Legal advocates warn the decision could have devastating effects for parolees who are now at risk of losing their work authorization, facing removal, or being cut off from crucial services.
