Temporary Immigration Relief for Lebanese Nationals in the U.S.: New TPS Designation and Employment Opportunities

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced new immigration relief measures for eligible Lebanese nationals in the U.S., providing opportunities for qualifying individuals to temporarily reside in the U.S. and obtain work authorization. Due to the ongoing armed conflict and unsafe conditions in Lebanon, DHS has designated Lebanon for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 18 months. Lebanese nationals who have continuously resided in the U.S. since October 16, 2024, can apply for TPS once the official notice is published.

Additionally, the previously announced Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) will allow eligible Lebanese nationals to apply for Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) through January 25, 2026.

Finally,  F-1 students from Lebanon may also qualify for Special Student Relief, enabling them to work more hours and reduce their course load while maintaining their F-1 status.

These initiatives aim to support the Lebanese community in the U.S. as they navigate the ongoing crisis in their home country. While none of these relief measures provide permanent legal status in the U.S., it provides individuals living in the U.S. with the ability to temporarily reside lawfully in the U.S. and obtain employment authorization.
