Experienced Citizenship Attorneys Serving Clients in Grand Junction, Colorado

Through a process known as naturalization, immigrants to the United States may be able to obtain American citizenship. There are a number of significant benefits that come along with U.S. citizenship. If you are qualified for citizenship, an experienced immigration lawyer can help you overcome any hurdles in the naturalization process.

At Joseph & Hall P.C., our skilled Grand Junction citizenship attorneys have helped many qualified applicants obtain citizenship in Colorado. No matter the specific circumstances of your citizenship case, our Grand Junction immigration attorneys have the legal knowledge and tenacity needed to protect your rights.

How Long Before You Can Become an American Citizen?

You cannot apply to become an American citizen through naturalization immediately. You must first obtain a valid green card. Then you must keep your green card in good standing with the U.S. government for at least five years. At that point, you will be qualified to submit an application for citizenship through naturalization.

Understanding the Eligibility Requirements

Under rules established and carried out by  United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) it is not enough to get a green card and live in the United States for five years. While that will allow you to apply for citizenship, you still must be able to satisfy some additional qualification standards. Most notably, you must:

  • Read, write, and speak in English;
  • Learn United States history and American government;
  • Commit to supporting the principles and ideals of the United States; and
  • Show a record that you have strong moral character and moral judgment.

What Our Grand Junction Citizenship Attorneys Can Do to Help You

Once you are sure you are ready to apply for citizenship, it is time to submit Form N-400, Application for Naturalization. Essentially, this document is your citizenship application. Further on in the process, you will also be required to go through a background check, pass the English and history tests, and sit for an interview with a federal immigration officer. If you have any problems in the application process at all, the best thing you can do is to be proactive. You should get one of our Grand Junction citizenship lawyers by your side immediately. We will help find the best way around any obstacles or challenges.
