Biography

Shana Velez is a graduate of the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law. Throughout her time in law school, she participated in the Immigration Law Clinic, representing both detained and non-detained individuals in removal proceedings. From there she went on to intern at the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project where she provided pro bono assistance to detained immigrants. She represented immigrants in bond hearings and assisted FIRRP’s attorneys in giving legal orientation presentations to groups of detained immigrants.

Throughout her career, Ms. Velez has represented non-citizens in a wide variety of cases. She defended primarily immigrants when she was a public defender in Yuma, Arizona, and in her solo practice in Phoenix, Arizona. She also regularly represented immigrants in domestic relations cases that often were complicated by the immigration status of her clients.

Since returning home to Colorado, she has consistently worked closely with immigrants in facing charges in juvenile court, working with immigrants whose children were removed from their care, and now focusing exclusively on immigration law at Joseph & Hall, PC. Her current practice includes family immigration, removal defense, and asylum cases.

In her free time, Ms. Velez spends time with her two daughters, visiting family in Eastern Colorado, and enjoying everything Colorado has to offer.
