HOW TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT
If you would like to schedule an initial consultation with an immigration attorney at Joseph Law Firm, P.C., please call our office at (303)297-9171 in Denver or (719)434-5660 in Colorado Springs.  You can also reach the firm by calling our toll free number at (800)914-3840.  If you are unable to come to our office location, you may request to schedule a pre-paid telephone consultation.  The cost of an initial consultation with an attorney is $150.00.  The initial consultation fee is collected at the time of the consultation and can be paid with MasterCard, Visa, Discover, check, money order or cash.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR INITIAL CONSULTATION
At the initial consultation an immigration attorney will discuss your immigration matter with you and will answer your questions based on the information that you are able to provide to the attorney.  After an immigration attorney reviews the issues and circumstances involved in your case, he/she will discuss how Joseph Law Firm, P.C. would be able to assist you in your immigration matter.  If Joseph Law Firm, P.C. is able to assist you with your immigration matter, the attorney will prepare a representation agreement describing the work that would be involved in your case and explaining the fees and costs associated with your case.

WHY USE AN ATTORNEY TO HELP YOU?
Immigration and nationality law is a complex and constantly changing area of law.  A knowledgeable and trained immigration attorney can effectively advise you and represent you before the Department of Homeland Security and immigration courts.  Consultants or “Notarios” are individuals that advertise that they can assist individuals with immigration matters, however, these individuals are not attorneys and do not possess a license to practice law.  It is against the law for individuals not licensed to practice law in the US to provide immigration advice to individuals.  Only a licensed, properly trained lawyer or accredited representative should file forms and applications with the Department of Homeland Security.

There are several reasons to hire an immigration attorney rather than a notario to assist you with your immigration matter.  First, immigration attorneys have gone to law school and are trained in the practice of immigration law.  They possess a license to practice law and are ethically obligated to protect your interests and zealously represent your interests.  Notarios are not trained in the law and do not possess a license to practice law.  They are not legally obligated to protect your interests.  Second, attorneys are bound by the attorney client privilege.  This means that what you tell your attorney is confidential and cannot be divulged to other parties without your consent.  Notarios have no such legal obligation to maintain confidentiality.  Third and most important, is that notarios cannot practice immigration in the immigration courts.  If the notario files your papers with the Department of Homeland Security, and makes errors that put you in removal proceedings, the notario cannot help you.  Only an immigration attorney can assist you in court.
